6 ways to give your website an energetic upgrade
A website is never complete. The way I see our online spaces, it as a living expression of the heart and soul work you are here to share. A place for your medicine to come to life.
For many of us (myself included if I am being totally honest) once it has been birthed into the world we tend to let it just sit there, expecting it to keep doing ‘the work’ for us… without actually tending the flames to keep it alive.
Just like our physical spaces, without regular nurture, our website and online spaces can also begin to feel stale and out of alignment with our current season. When this happens the tendency is to ‘ghost’ it and then stop inviting people in. Or, when people do discover it, what they are greeted with doesn’t have the vibrancy that it could have, or offer a representative of the current reality of your heart.
Yet it doesn’t take much to breathe a little new life into it. Devoting time each season to ensure that your website is energetically, and practically aligned with the cycle of work you are in will maintain that sense of aliveness AND benefit your discoverability from a Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) perspective too.
Below I am sharing 6 ways you can audit and tend to your website whenever it needs an injection of fresh energy…1. Connect in with your intentions…
Before you do anything from a practical point of view on your website, take a little time to remind yourself WHY and WHAT this space’s purpose is.
What do you want your website to SAY about your work?
What do you want people to DO when they come into your space?
What is the message you want to transmit to those who arrive here?
How do you want people to FEEL as they explore your home?
Take a little time and explore these questions so that any amends you make are anchored to these intentions.
2. View your website through your communitys’ eyes
Take a little time to read through your key pages — such as your homepage, about page and your offerings pages — from the perspective of a potential client, or community member. As you read through, notice how you feel when you read the words and view the imagery.
What feelings does your space evoke in you?
How do the words and copy land?
Do the images, colours and graphics spark what you wish?
If you find it hard to be objective with your own work, consider whether you have a trusted friend in business that you could do a ‘swap’ with and feedback on each other’s websites with the questions above.
3. Is your website pathway leading people as you would like them to?
One of the simplest ways to ensure that your website is working efficiently for you is to check in with the pathways through your world. If someone has to click more than a couple of times to get to what they need/want — particularly when it comes to your offerings (especially the cost) then they are likely to drift away, and maybe even leave feeling a bit frustrated.

When someone lands in your space on any of your key pages, how many clicks do they have to make to get to the foundational information of your offerings?
Is your website navigation (the menu at the top and the bottom of your website) clear and directive?
Are there any ways you can simplify these pathways and reduce the amount of clicks someone has to make?
4. Are you sharing too much and diluting your message?
In my personal opinion, gone are the days where someone has the attention span or capacity to read pages and pages of information on one screen. If anything, this can be a big turn off and water down your potency.
When working with clients I encourage them always to keep things as succinct as possible and simplify the information. You can of course add poetic touches and personal flavour, but the priority has to be the baseline information. The ‘fluffy’ bits can be added in flourishes, or even through a FAQ section, or PDF download if there is a lot of information required.
How long does it take someone to read through your offerings?
Is the fundamental information clearly laid out and easy to read?
Is there any information that is simply taking up space without any substance?
Consider breaking your information into sections with clear headers. Use bullet points to create clarity and avoid big long chunks of text. Ensure there is enough space on the page, and perhaps add in some images to make it gentle on the eye. You can also use Accordion functions to create a dropdown of key features, or if you are using Squarespace, list sections allow you to scroll horizontally which can add variety to the way you structure your page.
5. Are you making it easy for people to work with you?
People will generally be exploring your website because they want to find out more about the work you offer, but a common mistake I often see people making is not having a clear channel for people to actually engage with your work.
Your offerings need a clear call to action (CTA) which might look like a button to book, an enquiry form or a direct link to purchase from you. You need to make sure that it is EASY for people to work with you.
What is the current process for people to start working with you or book a service?
Can they take any steps without needing input from you? I.e. automated options, forms, etc.
How can you refine this process and open up the energetic channel for people to step deeper into your world?
I personally really recommend having a scheduling tool (I use Acuity) that allows people to book a free call, book directly into a session or sign up for a class or group offering, you can integrate forms to ask questions and Zoom/video conferencing to make it an almost seamless process for you and your client.
You can also use things like Squarespace commerce to offer things like digital products, courses and services.
Automating what you can in your business using these softwares creates a beautiful flow of energy through your world and makes it straightforward for people to enrol in your services.
I see many space holders and practitioners going back and forwards between their clients to try and arrange a date/time/call/answer questions/manage classes manually, and this is a huge energy leak.
What systems could you look at implementing to make it easier for people to actually book/pay for your services?
What calls to action can you add to your website to encourage others to step further into your heart work world?
6. How are you nurturing people from discovery to deepening?
While some people make impulse purchases, most people I work with need to build a relationship with their community before they are likely to invest their time, money and energy in their offerings. This is why it is important to consider the journey you are taking them on from the very first touch point when they discover your beautiful medicine.
What are the channels of connection you have currently online?
Where do these channels lead others to?
Consider how you would like to be nurtured if you discovered someone’s work that made your heart light up…
How would you like to connect with people when they first discover your online home?
Would you like to offer a free gift to them? A complementary call to discuss your work? Is there a stepping stone low level investment offering you can give them so they get a sense of what your offerings are about?
How would you like them to feel when they ‘leave’ your space after that initial discovery moment?
How can you share your medicine, with integrity, and create opportunities for them to work in a deeper way with you?
These are some of the ways I evaluate my own online spaces, as well as those I work with. With just a few tweaks and refinements you can create a completely renewed experience in your online spaces.
